Brian Long General I still remember how eerie it felt taking this photo. It has certainly paid off in the positive comments I have been given! 6/1/2015 9:36:41 PM

Dan L General Great shot! Thanks for sharing! 5/12/2017 4:19:37 PM
Tom Beckett General Interesting there is still rail in there. The view from inside the tunnel does impart an ethereal quality, what with the fog at the mouth of the tunnel. Cool shot. I can almost see a Rock U25 trundling slowly out of the tunnel with a drag freight for St Louis. 2/4/2021 4:53:21 AM
Scott Crotwell General Cool shot! 5/6/2021 6:51:34 AM
Rev. Jonathan Spurlock General Most if not all the rails were removed around 2015-16. A good bit of rail was still in place on the western section, near Windsor, MO, as late as 2012 but two years later everything west of there was gone. Rails from St Louis to Owensville and maybe further west lasted until early 2016 but by then they were gone too. I've never seen this tunnel but there's one in Freeburg, MO. You'd have to drive down and around from the top of the town to get to it but it's there; rail-less, sadly. FWIW the Owesnville weekly newspaper had an article or two about how the scrappers would come in, loosen the bolts, take up the rail and leave the rails in small stacks for loading onto a flatbed (IIRC). 11/18/2022 3:49:35 PM
Rev. Jonathan Spurlock General Correction to my post: rails were still in place from Union, MO to the US 50 crossing a little west of town as of early 2016. From Gerald and Rosebud, west, the rails are gone. 11/18/2022 3:51:06 PM
